Natya Shodh Sansthan

Natya Shodh Sansthan is a theatre-archive, perhaps the only one working for the last 45 years that has been documenting theatre history for the present as well as for the future.

About Us

Founded on 19 July 1981 as a wing of Upchar Trust, Natya Shodh Sansthan (NSS), one of the few institutions of its kind in India, has collected and studied a substantial amount of archival material related to Indian theatre in all its manifestations—classical and modern, traditional and urban, professional and experimental, entertainment-orientated and educative.

Scholars and researchers from all over the country and abroad use the resources available at NSS. The holdings include manuscripts, books, periodicals, review clippings, photographs, slides, audio and video recordings, films, documentaries, production-related material s (performance scripts, set designs and models, costumes, ornaments, masks) and publicity (brochures, folders, posters, handbills).
